Either and Neither

either:
1. the one and the other (each / both)
Example: Flowers on either side of the street.

2. the one or the other
Example: Use either hand it does not matter


either / or:
1. indicates two (or more) equal alternatives
Example: A bag used
either to carry books or to carry groceries.

2. indicates two (or more) mutually exclusive alternatives
Example: I want to play either soccer or basketball.


neither
1. not the one and not the other of two
Example: Neither of us wants to go to the beach


neither / nor
1. Indicates that the following alternatives are rejected
Example: Neither you nor I use bad words

2. indicates a negative in the preceding clause.
Example: Mary doesn't want chocolates or cookies, so I don't want chocolate and cookies neither.

* "me neither" literally means "me not also"

* either and can are used to emphasize a negative
Example: This is the best restaurant in town and it's not expensive either.
