DO is a verb used for action.

Functions:
Used as helping verb:
The verb DO helps other verbs to create questions.

It also helps in creating negatives answers for the questions asked.

Used for emphasis: helps emphasize other verbs or to make them stronger.

- DO you live here?

- I did tell you about mom.


Used instead of another verb.

- He likes roses, and so do I

- He speaks English better than he did a year ago

MAKE vs. DO

There are no clear rules about the meaning of MAKE and DO.

Generally we use MAKE when there is an end product.
- Make a profit
- Make a mistake

We use DO when the activity is an end in itself.
- Do business
- Do a good job
